In a certain room, a pair of hazy eyes was watching Mu Yao’s every move. That pair of eyes had an abnormal expression as their gaze lowered before tensing up.
That person was holding a small knife, which glowed faintly in the darkness.
Mu Yao and the two kids were standing right in front of the door. Outside the door, Mu Yao was sitting on the ground and wailing. Her entire body was trembling, and she scratched her ears and cheeks as she raised her head and shouted. Her voice spread throughout the quiet and deserted village, and she looked like she was on the verge of a breakdown.
Suddenly, the sound of hooves came from behind Mu Yao.
Mu Yao’s ears twitched, and her expression changed immediately. She picked up the two young children and turned around to hide behind the sweet potato stall.
Although the two children didn’t know what was happening, they seemed to have realized that they were in danger, and they instantly shut their mouths and stopped crying when they saw their mother’s expression.
Holding one in each arm, Mu Yao pressed her fingers to the children’s lips and crouched down behind the sweet potato stand.
The sound of horse hooves drew closer and closer. Mu Yao held her breath as she listened to the sounds and made a preliminary judgment. There were probably hundreds of horses, with hundreds more men riding on those horses.
It was unusual for such a remote village to host such a large number of horses unless this was a camp for soldiers, or even bandits!
If these men were bandits, it wouldn’t be strange that the villagers had hidden themselves. But Mu Yao was all by herself, and she was even carrying two young children. She would definitely be no match for them.
On the other hand, if they were soldiers, they would definitely recognize her given her status. That meant that she couldn’t show herself in front of them either.
No matter who it was, Mu Yao would have used her invisibility spell without hesitation if she were alone. However, the reality was that she couldn’t do that with the two young ones.
A cold glint flashed across Mu Yao’s clear eyes. She frowned and touched the two kids’ lips. She was so nervous that she broke out in cold sweat.
The two little babies stared unblinkingly at their mother with their big grape-like eyes. Sensing Mu Yao’s nervousness, Zimo reached out his tiny hands to touch her face. The latter turned to her son, thus moving her face away from his small hands.
Then, Zimo opened his palm and placed them on Mu Yao’s cold face. The warm touch spread across her cold face. He then grinned, revealing his incomplete front teeth.
Mu Yao couldn’t help but cover her mouth and giggle involuntarily. She couldn’t resist the sudden cuteness!
Taking advantage of Mu Yao being distracted, Zichun pulled away Mu Yao’s hand that was covering her mouth. She then rose to her feet and planted a peck on her mother’s cheek.
The moment she did so, she turned around and looked at her brother with a smug expression before sitting back down.
Zimo pursed his lips instantly, looking like he wanted to kiss Mu Yao too.
‘These two ignorant brats are still competing at such a critical moment!’
Mu Yao didn’t know whether to laugh or cry!
Mu Yao suddenly felt warm at the sight of the two little children fighting over her affection, and the anxiety she felt for no reason disappeared.
The pair of eyes behind the door saw everything that had just happened—Mu Yao’s warm interactions with her two little children.
They were still a distance away, but now, they were getting closer and closer to the door.
The mysterious person behind the door frowned, and that person’s grip on the knife tightened.
Of course, Mu Yao knew nothing about this.
Suddenly, a wave of light flashed at the end of the village, appearing alongside galloping horses that rustled up the soil, covering the entire village in a layer of fog.
“Oh no.” She would definitely be able to hide from the light if she were invisible. However, no matter how the three of them tried to hide, the light would eventually shine on them in this darkness no matter how hard they tried.
From afar, she could hear the leader shouting while holding a thick wooden stick that was burning with flames. He shouted loudly, “All of them! Search this place thoroughly for any targets. If you find them, capture all of them alive!”
“Yes, Boss!” his subordinates dutifully replied.
‘Target? Could they be the same group of people that was chasing me earlier? Are they the sorcerer’s men?’ Mu Yao couldn’t help but wonder.
Picking her two children up, she glanced around, looking for a secure hiding place.
If there was really no one in this village, then they could enter all the empty houses as she wished!
