Chapter 42 - :-42 Attack on the Camp (1/2)
Inside a dimly lit cave, sat the witches in a circle around the fireplace. Every single one of them had a dumbfounded expression on their faces as they listened to one of the famous members of the Union.
Nightingale sat beside them, recounting all of her experiences at the [Border Town]. The cold metal machine called the [Engine] from which white smoke came out and how it possessed abnormal strength.
She showed the blueprint which she asked Roland so that she could back up her words. She even told about Anna and Nana and how the townsmen treated both of them as a part of the society, especially Nana.
Most of the witches couldn't believe Nightingale's words no matter what she said. After all, a noble willingness to help them was too unrealistic.
Wendy didn't doubt her friend as she knew that no one could lie in her presence due to her derivative skill. Even so, she didn't have any intention of leaving the Union and follow Nightingale back to the town.
She had seen a fair share of nobles and knew that they only what to take advantage of them and nothing else. Still, she wouldn't force Nightingale to forget about the town, everyone has their own choices and she wasn't somebody who would make decisions for her friend.
”His Highness and the Lord, who resides in the town have also found a way to successfully pass through [Awakening]. We don't have to endure such pain and suffering any longer.....!!!” Nightingale excitedly announced.
Tap Tap Tap.....
Footsteps echoed throughout the place, they were inside a cave where even the slightest noise echoed everywhere. Most of the witches gave way to the incoming figure.
A woman wearing a Green cloak walked in. She had green hair and half of her face covered with snake tattoos. Everyone greeted the newcomer with respect. Her name was Cara the Snake Witch.
She belonged to the summoning type of magic-user. She could mold her magic into tangible snakes with a huge variety of poison, ranging from paralyzing the enemy from killing him/her.
”Honorable Mentor....” bowed Nightingale to show her respect to this old yet knowledgable witch who had been leading the Union for years.
”So you went outside only to be influenced by some prince who fooled you with his words and here you are, trying to convince others to join you and become slaves of nobility.” she spat out with hatred as she mentioned Nobles.
Nightingale didn't mind Cara's cold words as she knew what the latter had gone through to have such a biased opinion on Nobility and Church.
Originally kind and knowledgeable, after years of iniquitous treatment of witches, she became embittered at the whole world and became domineering.
Obsession with the Holy Mountain has aggravated her imperiousness and intolerance to the point of contradicting her own initial goals.
She considered the possibility of witches being treated kindly or equally with common people no more than a fairy tale or a trap.
”I understand what the Mentor is saying but what I am saying is the truth. I wouldn't ask the Mentor to change your mind but I would like to invite those who are interested....” before she could even finish what she was saying, Cara's snake had already closed in.
”Nightingale watch out....!!!” shouted Wendy after recognizing the snake which crept up to her was 'Death'.
Cara, who had come so close to finding the [Holy Mountain] wouldn't allow any distractions to come in her way thus, she struck decisively.
Nightingale immediately entered [Mist] after hearing Wendy's shout thus successfully avoiding the incoming attack. Cara seeing that Nightingale escaped, immediately summoned snakes around her and held a long knife in her right hand, dipped in poison.
