Chapter 117 - The Villain King (1/2)
[Beth…
Henry smiled at the image of the beautiful woman in front of him. He had seen her before, this was not their first meeting after so much time.
However, they never talked. She will pass him as if he didn't exist, and he will only stay still. It was his penance for leaving her, but it had to be done. He didn't have a choice.
”Miss Hesse, it is a pŀėȧsurė to finally meet you,” the beautiful blonde, Norah Thompson, extended her hand towards the red-haired Beth.
Norah had always wanted to meet her, not only because of her outstanding achievements, her fame, and connections, no… the reason was cruder. She was jealous.
The handsome man with emerald eyes, next to her hadn't looked at any other woman the same as he looked at that Miss Hesse. His shiny eyes will turn gentle and filled with love only at her sight.
It was as if no one was deserving of that gaze, only that woman in red. Norah hated it.
They had been together for so many years. She even knew Henry when he was a little boy, as they were doing the Mellie's missions together. However, he didn't look at her with such tenderness even once.
”Hello,” Beth greeted her and shook her hand. However, she didn't say another word.
”I am Norah Thompson,” the blonde said with a cute smile, ”It is my honor to finally meet you in person, I had heard a lot of you from Henry.”
Beth nodded and smiled, however, she didn't open her mouth to answer back.
Norah thought she could provoke her, maybe even made her unleash the beast hiding underneath that elegant face. After all, she knew very well that the supposed heiress was once a street rat.
An orphaned and dirty rat that came from nowhere and raised in the ranks of society by mere luck. It was time to expose her.
A few more seconds passed and Beth didn't say a word. She only raised her brow in annoyance and looked at Adam as if asking what is going on.
The people around snickered a little. They all knew the little actress wasn't invited to the party. She didn't have the qualifications to go to that sort of event. The invite should have been addressed to CEO Mills, not to her. She was the plus one.
Norah's face reddened in embarrassment, and she dropped her hand. However, she didn't back off.
”I am sorry for making you feel so uncomfortable, Miss Hesse,” Norah took Henry's arm and leaned her head on his shoulder. ”After all, you and Henry were once…”
She left the words for the crowd's imagination. The rumors were part of her plan too. This time she will have her little revenge against that woman.
However, before she could even gloat on happiness, Beth laughed. Then she looked at Adam with glee in her eyes.
”Let's go, Adam,” she took his hand, ”I don't have the time to spend with a little jealous actress.”
The people on the side were smart enough to understand the scene. After all, living in a world with so much malice and schemes, they had to develop an eye for understanding people. A little actress like Mrs. Thompson was not at the same level as them.
”Let go,” Henry's voice was cold when he shoved the woman by his side. ”Don't ever touch me again.”
”Henry?” Norah was now more red with embarrassment.
The crowd was starting to talk about her, and she only wanted Henry to console her, but he didn't.
”You wanted to come with me for one purpose, focus on the mission and get out of here.”
His words were devoid of emotion. From the day he left her, his indifferent face became his mask to hide his pain.
Now, the missions were the only purpose in his life. Though, he didn't know why.
”Where is the light?” Norah said while looking around. Her mission was to steal the light of the party. However, she didn't know where to start looking.
Henry, on the other hand, had started the intermediate missions already. He didn't have time to wait for her, nor even helped her. If she couldn't accomplish the beginner level, she was completely useless.
”Henry?”
Norah saw the man leaving, ”Where are you going?”
”It doesn't matter to you.”
His cold expression and dangerous eyes left her stunned in the same spot. She didn't have the courage to follow him.
However, someone else did. She had seen him, even more, she had investigated him for many years. Now it was time to get answers from him.
She deserved them.
”Henry,” Beth followed to the balcony, ”wait…”
However, before he could say a word. A strange light reflected the window panel behind Beth. He didn't hesitate when pushing the girl to the ground, and the sound of a bullet crashed the window.
