Chapter 16 (2/2)
However, the dog-eared girls in the forest did not respond.
“What happened?”
A bad premonition arose in Fu Rui’s heart, and he immediately led the two of them to investigate the situation.
As he slowly pushed aside the bushes, the few of them gradually approached the area where the dog-eared girls were on guard.
“There’s no one.” Yuan looked around worriedly but did not find anyone.
“Wei Wei! Li Li! Where are you!” The cow-eared female shouted.
“Shh, be quiet!”
Fu Rui quickly covered her mouth and reminded her, “There are traces of a large wild animal here.”
“Ah…” Xia jumped in fright and immediately shut her mouth. Then, she looked at where Fu Rui pointed.
There was a deep footprint on the soft soil. They all recognized that it was left behind by a bear.
Fu Rui was more experienced and could tell that this was a brown bear that had yet to reach adulthood. However, its body was not small either.
After following the footprints for a while, the grass here became messy and even had bloodstains on it.
There was also a broken stone spear in the mud beside him.
From the looks of it, the dog-eared girls must have lured the bear away before they could warn them as they were afraid that it would approach the river.
They had undoubtedly left the danger to themselves.
“Why are you so silly!”
Fu Rui clenched his fists. Humans were not as fast as brown bears. Thus, in the forest, one could only escape by climbing up thick trees.
He immediately followed the footprints deep into the forest.
However, Xia held him back. “Village Chief Rui, you can’t go in. It’s too dangerous. That’s the territory of the porcupine tribe. We have to return to the village to get help.”
“It’ll be too late then!” Fu Rui shouted.
The tribe was filled with cute and beautiful beast-eared females.
Fu Rui did not want any of them to be hurt, let alone die in the bear’s mouth to protect him.
Xia, who hunted all year round, was also very clear about the current danger the dog-eared girls were in, but how could she let the Village Chief go out and take risks alone?
If something happened to Fu Rui, it would be even more unbearable for the tribe than losing a few members of the tribe.
“Lord Village Chief, how about this? I’ll go look for Wei Wei and Li Li. You and Yuan will go back to the village to get help.”
The cow-eared female had fought with wild beasts all year round. Thus, the bloodlust that could only be aroused in a life-and-death battle was already present deep in her bones.
“What nonsense are you spouting? Are you better than me?”
For the first time, Fu Rui spoke to the beast-eared girl in an extremely serious tone. “Go back. Don’t distract me from taking care of you!”
Then, he emphasized himself again, “This is an order!”
The cow-eared female wanted to say more, but Yuan had already grabbed her arm.
“Trust Rui, he can do it.”
“But…”
“Alright, Sister Xia, even if Rui can’t beat the brown bear, he won’t run over to die like an idiot, meow.” Yuan had personally witnessed the whole process of Fu Rui killing a two-meter tall porcupine without making a move. How much stronger could a brown bear be than a porcupine?
Xia struggled slightly, but finally gritted her teeth and warned Fu Rui, “Lord Village Chief, don’t be stubborn. I’ll bring people over to help you right away.”
“Don’t worry.”
Fu Rui took the stone spear from her hand. “Lend this to me.”
“You have to be careful!” Xia nodded heavily and pulled Yuan along as they ran towards the village.
Fu Rui took a deep breath. It seemed that the Constitution-Enhancing Potion that he had exchanged from the system could now display its value.
