37 Reunion (1/2)
Getting outside of the tent. The grin that had been trying to appear the whole time, once I had heard the offer, broke out.
'This is the best equipment thing that could have possibly happened. Not only will I get stronger, I am progressing quickly. Maybe I will make it big, in something I do and get a nobility title. That would be the best. For me and everyone back home.'
The servant of Erebus was still standing outside. I only noticed her when she let out a small sigh at the goofy gri, that was plastered across my face.
”My master would like to speak with you, now that you are done with the duke. Please follow me.”
I just nodded my head as I walked behind her. This time we didn't stop at all, also she didn't talk to me as well.
So it didn't take us long to arrive at another part of the camp. This part had the dukes banner flying over it. Signifying that it was where the dukes troops were camped.
She led me to a tent which was out the way of the rest. As I walked past the soldiers though, I could feel their gazes piercing into my back. I also heard some mummers and that I had a magic sword.
The tent that Erebus had, looked alot like the dukes tent. Except that it was smaller and lacked the banners outside the front of it.
The servant walked straight in. Holding the tent flap open for me to enter it as well.
Walking in, I saw Erebus sitting on a small chair, looking at his sword.
”Sir, you wanted to see me.”
”Ah, yes kid. Do you mind telling me what the duke wanted off of you?”
”He just wanted to give me a choice. A choice of the path I want to take from where I am now. I choose to be a ranger. Not that it was what he wanted me to do though.”
”Well that's good. I'm glad you choose to be a ranger, it is probably the best choice for someone from a more common background. The knight and officer academies are filled with people who think that their noble status is more important than their skill. It often causes people who are not nobles to give up and leave or in the worst case, be murdered.”
My face paled when he said this. 'Even if the duke gave me his support, my life could have been forfeit as soon as I arrived.'
”Until someone comes to get you. I would have Dorcha here, take you to where you will be staying. I think you will find some of your comrades there. So have a good night.”
Dorcha the servant. Led me out of Erebus's tent after I had said goodbye, we walked in between a few tents, arriving at a smaller campfire. Then she stopped.
”I will be leaving you here. If you go to the fire, I am sure you will find someone who will help you.”
Just before she left, I grabbed her arm.
”Thank you, for helping me find my way around.”
She smiled at me for the first time since I had met her.
”It's fine. If you want to meet me later. Just walk to where the servants are camped. If you come. I think we both would have a lot of fun in the night.”
Then she walked off, giving me a little wave, before she was completely out of my sight.
After seeing her go, I turned around and walked to the campfire. As I got next to it
Some arms clammed round my waist, holding me there. Then I felt the tip of a knife touch the back of my throat.
”Sergeant, how are you already getting offers of women to join them in their beds at night? It's not fair. I have been trying for days and nothing is working.”
