Chapter 20 (1/2)
Let Me Do It
After making sure all her limbs were there, Xu Zhengyang heaved a sigh of relief. “Phew, you didn’t lose an arm or a leg. If you had, I would have to take care of you for the rest of your life. Just thinking about it gives me a lot of pressure.”
The nurse who was changing the dressing was speechless. Was he really her biological brother?
Xu Jiaojiao was already used to Xu Zhengyang’s lackadaisical attitude, so she looked up at him with a smile. “Brother, I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
“Your face is ruined. How are you still laughing?” Xu Zhengyang looked at the wound on Xu Jiaojiao’s forehead and frowned. “No one will marry you if your face is scarred, understand?”
Xu Jiaojiao protested, “Don’t say that! The doctor said that the wound isn’t too deep, so it won’t leave a scar.”
Xu Zhengyang said, “The doctor must have lied to you. A young girl like you is the easiest to fool.”
The nurse could not stand it anymore. She was about to retort that their doctor was a professional when Qi Shenbai came in and happened to hear Xu Zhengyang’s infuriating words. Qi Shenbai reached out and pulled him to the side, saying to the nurse, “He’s not in his right mind. Don’t worry about him. Continue.”
The nurse nodded.
When Xu Zhengyang heard Qi Shenbai say that his mind was addled, he instantly exploded. “Qi Shenbai! You bastard! I work myself to the bone for you and your company, but you almost got my sister killed!”
Qi Shenbai was already in a bad mood. When he shot Xu Zhengyang an icy glare, Xu Zhengyang instantly fell silent. Fine, he had to admit he was still quite afraid when his superior glared at him like that.
The nurse continued to apply medicine to Xu Jiaojiao’s wound. Although it was not deep, it was still a cut, exposing her skin and flesh. She clenched her fingers in pain, holding her breath.
Qi Shenbai looked at Xu Jiaojiao’s wrinkled face. It felt as if someone was squeezing his heart. “Let me do it.” He stepped forward to take the nurse’s cotton swabs and medicine. The nurse hesitated for a moment, but seeing that Qi Shenbai was quite reliable, she gave up her seat.
Qi Shenbai took the nurse’s place and gently applied a cotton bud to the wound. Xu Jiaojiao was stunned for a moment as she looked at the handsome face of the man in front of her. She did not know how Qi Shenbai usually took care of himself, but his skin was so delicate that no pores could be seen. He had sharp eyebrows, bright eyes, a high nose bridge, and even lower down, his lips were very red. Half of his Adam’s apple, which was restrained by his shirt, was exposed, with an almost forbidden allure. In particular, there was a faint wooden fragrance on his body that could overpower the unpleasant smell of the medicine.
