Chapter 16 (1/2)
You’re Still Young
Qi Shenbai nodded. “Yes, your brother has been busy with the project at hand recently and doesn’t have time to take care of you, so you can look for me if you need anything.”
After graduation, Xu Zhengyang did not stay in the Xu family’s small company. Instead, he entered the Qi Corporation and could be considered Qi Shenbai’s right-hand man. He was usually very busy with work.
Xu Jiaojiao nodded. “Got it. Thank you.”
After a few seconds of silence, Qi Shenbai said, “You’re still young. You have many choices in the future. Since you missed out on him, it means that you’re not suitable for each other. Don’t be too conflicted about it.”
Xu Jiaojiao’s eyes slowly widened. These words… Were they meant to comfort her?
When Qi Shenbai saw Xu Jiaojiao staring at him without saying a word, he thought that she did not agree with him. He frowned and asked, “Do you think I’m wrong?”
Xu Jiaojiao finally reacted and quickly shook her head. “No, no, you’re right. I’ve long gotten over him. It’s just that after hearing his words today, I suddenly realized that I’ve never really understood him. He’s completely different from the person I imagined. Right now, I can’t even imagine what it would be like if I really married him.”
Qi Shenbai knew that Xu Jiaojiao was young and had grown up in the countryside, so it was inevitable that she was a little naive and did not understand the complexity and darkness of human nature. He said, “The human heart is unpredictable. You’re still young. When you grow up, you’ll realize that these things aren’t a big deal.”
Xu Jiaojiao could not help but glance at him and muttered, “Why do you keep saying that I’m young? I’m already twenty years old. I’m not young anymore.”
“What did you say?” Her voice was so soft that Qi Shenbai could not hear her clearly.
“I want to thank Lu Zhuo for not marrying me.” Xu Jiaojiao smiled widely. “I also want to thank Mr. Qi for being there that day. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been the only one to lose face. Our entire family would have been humiliated.”
When Qi Shenbai saw the smile on her face again and how energetic she was, the corners of his lips subconsciously curled up. “Yes, it’s good that you can understand.” Although this little girl was young, she was much more sensible than his sister, Yunduo. No wonder that dog Xu Zhengyang protected her like a treasure.
Xu Jiaojiao did not know if it was because of Qi Shenbai’s counseling, but she did not feel so depressed anymore. It was just as Qi Shenbai had said, the human heart was unpredictable. In the past, she had thought of people too naively. Even if Lu Zhuo treated her well and warmed her heart, it was normal for people to change after so much time.
After thinking this through, Xu Jiaojiao’s mood became even lighter. As soon as she entered her room, she heard her phone vibrate. The moment she picked up the call, Su Luo’s heart-wrenching scream rang out from the other end. “Xu Jiaojiao!”
