Chapter 40 - The Last Dance (1/2)
The hoarse voice echoed in her ears. She was seized with growing unease again, and her fingers holding his sleeve became stiff.
She turned her head to avoid his touch and smiled reluctantly. “Chen, what’s the matter with you? Your words sound a little scary.”
With that she wanted to take off the blindfold. She couldn’t see him, touch him or read his thoughts from his expression. It was a torture for her.
Xu Zijin couldn’t wait to break away from such a torturous situation. She wanted to see for herself what on earth happened to Fu Chen.
“Don’t hurry.” Fu Sinian grabbed her hand and stopped her from taking off the blindfold. “Let’s dance first.”
‘Dance?’
Xu Zijin was more confused.
Fu Sinian saw the puzzled look on her face, but chose to ignore it. He didn’t allow her to refuse. So he held her hand in a tight grip and led her to the dance floor.
Music rang out, and Xu Zijin heard a familiar, melodious tune. Her face suddenly paled with horror.
The music had the familiar beat of a waltz…
The familiar tune took her on a trip down the memory lane to her 18th birthday.
On that day, she made her brilliant debut with a waltz at her birthday party and became the first young lady of note in Jiang City.
But what made her happier was her dancing partner.
Xu Zijin couldn’t help shivering.
The familiar dance music and dance steps trapped her in the memories of the past. Even the air was filled with the faint, familiar fragrance of jasmine.
Her face assumed a sort of dreamy expression. Xu Zijin felt as though she had entered a time warp– at her 18th birthday party, she was dancing with Fu Sinian and everything was the best in her imagination.
Xu Zijin was in a trance thinking of her past life when she was dancing. As soon as the music stopped, she pushed Fu Sinian away and ran towards the door.
She dared not think more or take off the blindfold. She didn’t even have the courage to stay here anymore. Although the truth was about to come out, she forced herself to ignore it.
‘How can it be possible? I don’t believe it!
I’m going to leave here. It will be okay as long as I leave here…’ she thought.
Flustered, she accidentally hit the sofa and with a bang, she fell heavily to the floor.
