139 Should Not Give Them False Hope (1/2)

Prince Lu Wei rubbed the back of his neck as he watched his grandmother walked out of the tent. The Prince did not know whether he should laugh or cry as he turned to look at Jiang Xiao Tian and the others.

”My grandmother and her clan always valued girls than boys,” Prince Lu Wei spoke after a brief silence between them. ”When my concubine mother was pregnant with me, she thought she was having a girl. Grandmother would call me Wei Wei because of this.” He immediately pursed his lips. Prince Lu Wei did not know why he tried to explain this thing to others.

Jiang Xiao Tian only smiled as he heard the Prince's explanation. None of them asked further about the Prince's nickname to prevent another embarrassment. They followed Commander Wu out and headed towards another tent where a few of Qian Rong's soldiers and the previous attacker were locked in a cage.

Commander Wu then explained to Jiang Xiao Tian once again, what happened after he passed out for almost a day.

Yang Yun took a few men and returned to the scene where Prince Lu Wei was attacked. They caught the attackers along with two Qian Rong's soldiers to be interrogated. They were all taken back into Da Cheng's territory.

Under Commander Wu's and Chief Ye's interrogation, the men admitted that the Emperor had sent them to kill Prince Lu Wei along with everyone else and blamed a few bandits. Once the two Qian Rong's soldiers heard that, they pleaded with the Prince that they would do anything as long as Prince Lu Wei could make them safe.

Jiang Xiao Tian turned to Prince Lu Wei and asked, ”Your Highness, what do you plan to do? If you decide to return, then, I will assign a few men to protect you. However, once you entered Qian Rong, we cannot do anything to help you.”

Prince Lu Wei was silent as he thought over what he wanted to do next. ”I am not going to return to Qian Rong. That will be suicide. My brother will not let me live and threaten his position.”

Jiang Xiao Tian smiled. He agreed with the Prince's words.

”I will go with my grandmother and return with her,” Prince Lu Wei said. ”This is what I initially planned to do. My grandmother and the others came over to save me. We're supposed to meet after I crossed over Da Cheng's border. But my brother's men were quicker to find me.”

”Will you be alright?” Jiang Xiao Tian asked.

His lips curved into a small smile. ”Don't worry. My brother did not know anything about my maternal grandmother's existence. Everyone thought that my mother was an orphan.”

Jiang Xiao Tian nodded. They discussed what they should do with the attackers and Qian Rong soldiers and decided to let one of the attackers to return to Qian Rong to inform their Emperor that Prince Lu Wei had died.

Soon, the others left the room. Just as Jiang Xiao Tian was about to turn around and go, the Prince stopped him. ”Is there anything else?”
