41 Chapter 41 Charge (1/2)
(Erik POV)
Watching the gremlins get torn to shreds from the focused fire I was truly a moved at the sight. Tiny yellow bodys getting their limbs blown off with scarlet roses filling the air. The scent of copper and smoke mixing together like a drug that made you desire more.
My plan was actually a really simple one, because of my explosions a lot of the gremlin's fortifications were destroyed or damaged. All I did really was ask for some help from Ruby, in exchange she got all the bodies and I would play a dozen rounds of chess with her. Apparently she has become addicted to the game since Hunter showed it to her. I was more than happy to accept her terms so she had her grunts burrow underneath the remaining fortifications and cause the earth to collapse. With the ensuing chaos we simply had to point and shoot to finish the little buggers off from behind the wall.
The biggest hurdle I had to jump through was convincing these guys to trust that a bunch of ants would help us out. They just wouldn't believe me at first and thought I was crazy. After a long conversation and even introducing Ruby online to the captains I was finally able to settle their fears and doubts. Now it is just the fear factor that is holding the foot soldiers back. Most if these boys have never seen real combat before the world went to shit. It's one of the reasons the gremlins were able to surround them in the first place. If they had a real leader giving the orders at the beginning they would have had a much easier time.
I spot Jade in one of the firing squads, I'm pretty impressed by how calm she looks. Most of the over greenies are just gritting their teeth and wasting ammo. Sigh, what I would give to have the time to put them through just a week of my training. No, even just three days and they would be way better than they are now.\
Have to work with what your given Erik. Even if all your given is trash.
Shut up mutt. I still haven't gotten over your earlier performance.
He he.
What I wouldn't give to get ten minutes face to face with that mutt. Sigh.
At least the plan seems to be going ok. Another few minutes of this and the gremlins should be mostly exterminated, than with the combined force of the men and the ants we can finish off the rest in close combat. It will be good for the men to experience close combat now than right after we run out of ammo.
Watching over everything I can't help but feel uneasy about something. I have that tingle on the back of my neck that is trying to tell me something is wrong. I just can't put my finger on it. The gremlins are pretty much done for, my men are safe behind the wall, the ants are staying hidden until the guns stop firing. What am I missing?
Suddenly a horn sounds out. Long and deep, ringing out throughout the space that draws everyone's attention. I look in the direction it is coming from and notice a larger gremlin that seems to be dressed in shiny things holding a handmade horn. Suddenly it hits me, I never considered if the gremlins had a backup plan or reinforcements on the way. I always considered the group surrounding the wall as our only opponents. Dammit, what are the reinforcements and how many of them are there.
Suddenly another horn sounds out from behind the gremlin group. The ground started to shake slightly with a rapid beat. Howl's rang out and a fierce battle cries soon followed. Larger gremlins riding what seem to be wolves the size of horses come into sight. Most of the gremlins are only around half a meter tall but these guys are at least one and a half. I'm not worried about them but their mounts. The wolves all have pitch black fur and red eyes that seem to radiate bloodlust. I could feel their desire to kill from the top of the wall. There seems to be at least two hundred of them, that might not normally be a problem but most of my troops are still too green to handle such a sudden change.
