284 A Gentleman on the Outside with a Heart of a Scum (1/2)
Wang Yao was taken aback by the boy's reaction. After regaining his senses, he took a few steps away.
When he lifted his head again, he saw two evil-looking men looking in his direction from the lobby of a nearby building.
Wang Yao made sure to memorize their appearances from afar.
”Sorry,” Wang Yao said to the child.
The child was startled, but he did not speak. He just pursed his lips and looked at Wang Yao within a guarded manner.
Sigh. He turned around and left.
This was the provincial capital and this location was a bustling area. People and cars come and go. The child beggars were definitely not here for just a day. Did no one see them? It was impossible. Why did no one care about them? They were already used to it. Ordinary, everyday people did not dare to interfere with the situation, and people who were able to help did not know how to handle it.
Where was justice? Where was fairness?
Justice would eventually prevail. However, sometimes, it came too late and lost its purpose. In some cases, justice simply could not be asserted. It was beaten miserably by their opponent called ”evil.”
Thinking justice always came at exactly the right time was a wonderful ideal, but reality was cruel.
This was the world!
Although the dinner at this hotel was quite good, the incident with the child made Wang Yao feel lethargic when he finished his meal.
That night, he received a message and a call from He Qisheng at the hotel. He wanted to meet Wang Yao the next day.
In the hotel room, the perplexing thoughts only vanished when Wang Yao recited the scriptures a few times.
The next day, He Qisheng drove to the hotel early and waited outside.
”Have you been to the exam venue?”
”Yes,” Wang Yao replied.
”That's good then. Why don't I take you around, now that you're in Ji City?” He Qisheng suggested with a smile.
Wang Yao had actually been to Ji City. No, that wasn't quite true; he had only passed by. He had not actually looked around and explored the city. This ancient city was famous for its spring water. However, sightseeing was actually not suitable in such a hot weather like this. Furthermore, Wang Yao was not really in the mood for sightseeing, but he thought it would be rude if he shot down He Qisheng's good intentions.
”Let's look around then.”
”Okay.” He Qisheng made sure to drive slowly.
Soon, they drove past the place where Wang Yao passed by the day before. In the shadows of the streets and the buildings, Wang Yao saw another two child beggars. One of them was the one he met the day before, and the other one was unfamiliar to him.
”Stop the car for a moment,” Wang Yao said softly.
He Qisheng hurriedly stopped the car by the roadside. Wang Yao looked out of the window quietly. A police car drove past, but it did not stop and stay for a moment.
”What's wrong?”
”That. Does no one care?” Wang Yao pointed outside the car window.
”What?” Looking out of the window, He Qisheng did not realize what Wang Yao was talking about. ”Are you talking about those children?”
”Yes.”
”There should be someone who watches them,” He Qisheng replied after a pause.
He had been in Ji City for some time. He did not only see child beggars in this place; rather, it should be said that, they were not only seen in Ji City, but also in many other cities as well. Most of these children were not originally disabled. Instead, he realized they were beaten until they were disabled, to gain people's sympathy and seek profit from the act. He was once angry. After that, he felt that any actions to fix it were done in vain, and he got disillusioned to the point that he became used to it. He had seen it a lot, so he became desensitized to the sight.
”I saw him yesterday. That child's leg was broken purposefully by someone,” said Wang Yao.
The people behind these children were unforgivable!
”Let's go.” Wang Yao's tone was very calm.
Without another word, He Qisheng started up the car and drove away. He Qisheng tried to bring him to a few famous places. But He Qisheng could also see that Wang Yao was not interested at all by the sights.
In less than an hour, Wang Yao saw six disabled child beggars at three different locations.
”Brother He, where do you work?” Wang Yao suddenly asked such a question.
”A consulting firm called Zhengyuan.” He Qisheng asked, ”Why do you ask?”
”I'm just curious,” Wang Yao answered.
”Has Miss Guo ever gone abroad?”
”Yes. She went to Europe five days ago.”
”It's good to distract oneself.”
After touring around for a short time, Wang Yao requested to return to the hotel. His first impression of this city was not very positive. The ancient city and provincial government had turned a blind eye tothe matter of the children beggars. The crimes in broad daylight were not dealt with, and they wanted to plan the city's development and expansion?
Wang Yao was not an angry young man. However, once these things were seen, they typically made people furious.
