What Miao Qingshan wanted to eat most at the moment was food from the village.
”Whatever. I'm not in the mood for anything much,” Miao Qingshan replied with a smile. His smile looked rather bitter. There was no point in thinking about any of it.
Miao Tianchuan chuckled for a bit before lighting up a cigarette.
”I'll go get us something to eat,” he said. ”It is the new year after all.”
Before long he returned with a lot of good food.
The two men tidied up the abandoned house a little. Although it looked less messy, it still did not look like home.
The place remained dilapidated and cold.
”I guess we'll have to make do with what we've got,” Miao Tianchuan said.
”It's alright,” Miao Qingshan said.

Most people returned home for lunch. A few people remained behind at the building to eat. There was a canteen in there. The food tasted rather good, and it was affordable.
The entire place was empty after lunch.
The day quickly turned into night.

Most administrative personnel were hospitalized. They were vomiting or had diarrhea. Guo Zhenghe was one of those people.

He steadied his breath and aimed closely at Miao Xihe with the scope.
A breeze blew, and the leaves rustled.
