Chapter 112 - Truth (1/2)
Qian Meigui and Yang Rei stepped into the hospital ward. The doctor informed them of his current condition. ”He's not awake,” the doctor began to Qian Meigui's disappointment. ”He needs time to rest and recuperate due to the extensive injury he received,” she paused, turning to Yang Rei. ”Mrs. Song, if it weren't for Song Ren's efforts, he wouldn't be alive.”
Yang Rei looked down grimly, but she smiled a bit, almost as if she knew that Song Ren had that capability.
As they stepped into the hospital room, they saw machines tied to Song Sheng, keeping him alive. He wore a long hospital gown; his jet-black hair tumbled over his eyes, bandages wrapped around his exposed abdomen.
He wore an oxygen mask over his face, but the fog ensured that he was still alive and breathing. While Yang Rei was speaking to the doctor, Qian Meigui stepped closer to him. She grasped his hand, warm to the touch. She sighed in relief. The hours since it happened and came to the hospital, she didn't eat, didn't sleep. She looked out blankly. When she finally held his hand, she began to cry, letting the tears cascade down her cheek.
Yang Rei spoke to the nurse as she watched Qian Meigui with her eldest son. No one told her or the twins about the nature of their relationship. But it was obvious. While Qian Meigui was gone, Song Sheng stayed at the Song Mansion for many nights, working with Song Jun. He didn't sleep, and when he did, it was either on the couch or a chair. She let them have their privacy as a nurse came in and introduced herself.
Qian Meigui finished crying, beginning to feel better. She then grabbed Song Sheng's hand, laying a gentle kiss on his knuckles. Until he woke, she will ensure that she put the people responsible for his injuries and her parent's deaths in jail. She will also reveal herself as she can now. But most importantly, she needed to confront Song Rui for some more clarity.
Qian Meigui took a deep breath, glancing at him once more, determined that she will fight while he's asleep, fighting to wake. She then turned her heel, passing Yang Rei, whom she nodded at with a smile before leaving.
Song Ren saw Qian Meigui leave the ward with her expression soft and gentle. It made her feel relieved. She was too afraid to go in. Song Sheng was the big brother she knew all her life, and memories flashed. She recalled a time when Song Sheng's face appeared to be reserved and broody, so Song Ren imitated that look, making their parents laugh as she looked angry. Song Sheng got annoyed, so she kept making those faces around him, but soon after, it made him laugh too.
Lost in her thoughts, Qian Meigui approached her. ”I need to do something. Can you stay with him while I am gone?” Song Ren nodded. ”Of course. We will all take turns, however long it takes.” Qian Meigui smiled. She then approached Song Rui, ”I need you to clarify some things for me.” Song Rui appeared to be grave, but all he said was, ”All right.”
Qian Meigui and Song Rui left. Soon after others begin to leave knowing that they had to go home since none of them had rest.
The doctor approached Song Ren after Qian Meigui left. ”Doctor Ren,” she called out. Song Ren turned to face her, smiling grimly. ”I'm not a doctor. I'm still in school.”
The doctor smiled at her. ”You're skills are awe-inspiring for your age, quite immaculate. I wanted to compliment you on your work. Will you ever work in the hospital?”
Song Ren never thought of it. She had been working in an office all her life. ”Perhaps one day,” she responded with a gentle smile.
The doctor was about to leave, but her eyes widened when she glanced at Su Feng, her face slightly flushed as she walked away. Song Ren chuckled when Su Feng enclosed his arms around her waist. ”I want to get married when Sheng is well.”
Su Feng nodded, giving her a peck on the lips. ”Anytime you want,” he responded. Song Ren hugged him, and Su Feng tightened their embrace, breathing in her scent. He heard what she had done, and he was initially angry due to how reckless and impulsive she acted. But Su Feng knew Song Ren well; it was definitely something she would do. He then leaned into her ear, whispering, ”For your heroic attributes. What do you say to a night of love-making for a reward?” Song Ren flushed red, gritting her teeth. She looked at him, his ice-blue eyes watched her with warmth, like an iceberg thawing. But Song Ren fell for it, the depths of his seduction. ”Later,” was all she said with a smirk.
