C9 (1/2)
The next day, 5 PM.
Wang Yi was sitting on his bed smoking. These were two boxes of Nanjing cigarettes bought by Wang Yi from tobacco stores. They were 12 yuan a box, and weren't very expensive, but Wang Yi liked the smell of the cigarettes.
During the last decade of the apocalypse, the entire world was in chaos. The production of wine, tobacco, these common items basically stopped, and humans gradually restored order in the later stages. These items only had a small amount of production, and Wang Yi's previous life was only slightly better than the lowest level of mankind.
The phone suddenly rang, interrupting Wang Yi's train of thought. Wang Yi thought that the item he bought at the supermarket had arrived. When he picked up the phone, it was indeed that manager.
”Mr. Wang, the goods you wanted have been delivered. Please come down and sign for them.” The manager's voice came over the phone. ”
”Alright, I'll be right down.”
Wang Yi hung up the phone and looked through the window. He saw a medium-sized truck parked beside his truck and a few workers smoking and chatting in front of it.
Wang Yi put on his clothes and hurried downstairs.
The manager was talking with the workers when he saw Wang Yi come down and immediately went up to welcome him.
”Sir, all the goods you requested have been brought here. We brought these workers here to help you unload the goods. Do you think this cart is for you to take upstairs or …?”
”There's no need to send it upstairs. We can just unload it onto this truck.”
As Wang Yi said this, he opened the truck's door. The workers saw that it didn't take them much effort to get to the top of the building. They just moved from truck to truck and started to unload the goods.
”Wang, Wang Yi, can you come over for a bit?” A soft female voice sounded. Wang Yi looked towards the voice and saw Lee Mei leaning against the door of the unit, looking at him with a complicated expression.
”What is it? Is there something I can help you with, Sister Mei? ”
Wang Yi had long forgotten about the beating of Chen Jiaming. He scratched his head in confusion when he saw Lee Mei looking at him with a trace of grief in her eyes.
”Did you tell Jiaming that you …” It has something to do with me? ” Lee Mei bit her lips, feeling conflicted.
Since Jiaming had called her that day, he hadn't returned home, only a man who claimed to be Chen Jiaming's friend had called Lee Mei and told her that Chen Jiaming had found out about her cheating.
However, this made Lee Mei even more confused. What kind of joke was this? He had cheated, yet she didn't even know that he had cheated? Lee Mei then asked the person and finally knew that the person she was cheating on was the neighbor surnamed Wang next door.
His surname was Wang. Next door, Lee Mei thought that Wang Yi was probably the only one.
Lee Mei said angrily when she saw Wang Yi remain silent.
”Why do you say that, do you know how much trouble you've caused me!”
”Eh …” Looking at the grieving Lee Mei, Wang Yi didn't know what to say. After all, he had only said those words without thinking about what would happen next.
”So it's like this. Sister Mei, wait for tomorrow. I will give you an answer.”
Tomorrow was the apocalypse.
”Pui!” Dirty! ”
Lee Mei spat angrily. Looking at Wang Yi's calm face, hatred started to rise in her heart. She had never thought that her normally gentle neighbor would actually slander her like this.
Although Lee Mei didn't have a good relationship with her husband Chen Jiaming, she was still a husband and wife after all. No matter what, they would still have a trace of feelings for each other.
”If you say so, then I won't explain anything.” Wang Yi shook his head indifferently and didn't continue to care about Lee Mei. After all, the apocalypse was tomorrow, and everything would be solved easily. At most, he would just save Lee Mei's life.
”You bastard!” Looking at Wang Yi's back, Lee Mei's tears fell uncontrollably. She silently went home and wrapped herself in a blanket. It was as if this thin blanket could isolate her from the world.
7 PM.
After all the goods were loaded, Wang Yi handed the rest of the money to the manager. He locked up the truck and slowly walked out of the district towards the crowded pedestrian street.
Wang Yi wanted to see this world, the world that was going to become a wasteland.
Ming Wa Corridor was Jinling's most famous night market. Wang Yi had been strolling along, and it was unknown when he had arrived there. Looking at the bustling crowd, he was stunned for a moment.
Perhaps tomorrow, there would not be such a scene.
”Big brother, big brother, do you want a flower?”
After an unknown amount of time, an 11-12 year old little girl appeared in front of Wang Yi. She held a bunch of roses in her hands and looked timidly at Wang Yi.
”Oh.” Wang Yi suddenly woke up from his stupor. Looking at the eager expression in the girl's eyes, Wang Yi couldn't help but reveal a smile from the bottom of his heart.
”Yes, how much are you spending?”
Hearing that, the little girl wrinkled her nose and revealed a sweet smile. Her gaze towards Wang Yi was no longer that timid.
”As long as it's twenty dollars, it's cheaper than everyone else's.” Seeing that Wang Yi was silent, the little girl thought that Wang Yi was not satisfied with the price.
”Big brother, big brother, if you buy more, then it can be cheaper.”
”Mm …” Wang Yi pondered for a while, looking at the little girl who had a look of longing on her face, he couldn't help but smile and said.
”How about this, I'll buy all of these for you. How much do you think it is?”
”Really?” The little girl could not believe it.
”Really.” Wang Yi nodded his head vigorously. At the same time, he took out the remaining money from his pocket and put it all into the hands of the little girl.
”But, big brother, you've given too much. It's only a hundred flowers.” The little girl struggled to lift the bouquet with one hand, while holding the stack of bills in front of Wang Yi with the other.
”Your money is worth the price.” Wang Yi shook his head and reached out to take one of the flowers.
”I'll take this flower away. As for the rest, I'll give them all to you. Remember, don't sell the flowers to anyone else.”
