182 A long nigh (1/2)
Aisling arrives with Marshal with food for everyone. When she walks into the waiting room she is enveloped with warmth. The room is over flowing as always when her family is together. The families of those from the accident are all together. In the corner of the room sits a woman in her early fifties all alone. She is watching the family interact together. She stares at Astila with an angry look. Aisling walks over and offers her some food.
”We brought plenty of food for everyone would you like to have something to eat?” The woman looks up at her and takes one of the bags. Aisling sits next to her and begins to ask her a few questions.
”Will your loved one be ok?” The woman looks at her and shrugs.
”I don't know, I got the phone call he had an accident and when I get here he is in heart surgery. He has other injuries so they did what they could. The Dr says he will need open heart surgery when he gets stronger . I feel a little angry though the Dr is friends with the families of the people from the accident.” Aisling looks at her and asks why.
”My husband was the cause of the accident. Once I saw how close he was to the families I worried that maybe he didn't do his best. I know it's irrational but when I saw him with them I just got angry. ” Aisling takes her hand and tries to comfort her.
”You know there is not a single person in this room who blames your husband. Accidents happen everyday and he did not choose that moment to have a problem. You know the Dr is one of the best heart surgeons in the country. Before he became a doctor he was a military man. I know this because he is my husband . He would never intentionally harm anyone. To him every life is precious he is close the the families because they are mine. He is staying here with the family instead of going home because he wants to be close incase your husband needs him. He will do everything humanly possible to take care of him. If you like I can pray with you in fact my entire family will. ” Aisling smiles at the lady and goes to talk to John .
”Uncle John can we have a prayer circle? The woman there her husband was the one who hit the kids. She is feeling like everyone else here.” Astila looks at Aisling talking to John he comes over and puts his arm around her.
”You doing ok?” He sees she is concerned about something.
”your patients wife is a little angry that you are so close to the family. She thinks you won't do your best out of thinking he is at fault. I was asking Uncle John If we can circle the ICU in a prayer circle. ” Astila nods and goes to make a call.
He calls his mentor at Hopkins asking for a favor.
”Ma'am my wife told me of your concerns so I called another Dr in. He is my mentor from John Hopkins. He had taught me everything I know. He will be here in a few hours. I asked him to go over your husbands chart and to examine him to ensure that I have done everything I can. I asked him to help reassure you . He is the best in the country.” The woman burst into tears. Astila holds her hand and as she cries.
