Chapter 118 - What Would Alphius Truly Want? (1/2)

After thinking about it thoroughly, Hecathe was a bit surprised to realize that he had thought too much about it.

The answer was simple. It was a bit too simple.

It was something that anyone would be able to see once they tried to imagine themselves in Alphius's shoes.

Alphius didn't want to avenge Orgon nor did he want Hecathe to avenge Alphius himself.

Rather than all that, what Alphius really wanted was revenge.

He wanted revenge against those who had wronged him.

The boy had been hated by everyone for most of his life. He thought he could trust his two friends but while one died in the hands of an ambitious bastard, the other got manipulated and turned against him.

In the end, he was left with no one by his side. Not even the mecha-suits that he created were there to save him. He was left alone to die in the hands of the friend he trusted...

If Hecathe was in his place, he would have also been driven crazy.

Avenging someone's death was something heroes would do and Hecathe was no hero. Both in this world and his own world, he was never considered as the hero. So why would Alphius summon him after knowing that he wasn't a hero that goes around doing people favors?

If Hecathe incurred a problem, instead of being worried about it, he would burn it down without even investigating it.

It wasn't like Alphius would just randomly call him without even knowing what kind of man he was. He had options and he chose to ask Hecathe for help

Why would that be?

Why would he choose Hecathe who was more of a real villain than him?

Of course, there would only be one answer to that question.

It was because the boy wasn't looking for righteousness.

He wasn't looking for someone who could bring justice to this world.

He was looking for someone who could carry out his revenge for him.

Someone who would be capable of doing something like that.

And if that was really the favor that Alphius wanted then it would make sense why Hecathe was here.

To plan a war that could destroy half of the world? It was something that Hecathe could do without even blinking an eye.

The biggest difference between avenging and taking revenge laid within the method used.

If Hecathe were to avenge his death, there would be a sense of justice in his mind, however, if he were to take revenge, such thoughts of justice could be neglected completely.

The driving factors of the two were very different. While a person was driven to avenge someone because of a sense of justice, revenge was something that only had one driving factor and it was hatred. Hatred for the one who caused harm and wanting them to feel the same pain that you went through.

By putting a killer in jail, a police officer could avenge the victim, but if it were up to the victim to take his own revenge, the killer would not be in jail but would be in hell instead.

”Hecathe, have you really thought about this?” Marvin asked with his eyebrows furrowed up in worry, ”We would also be caught up in the war...!”

Hecathe chuckled dryly as he heard this and commented, ”You're worried about something like that? Aren't you the hero who is supposed to be worried about the people? How can you think only about yourself at a time like this?”

Marvin pursed his lips into a thin line and shook his head as he snapped, ”Stop with that hero bullsh*t already! If I was a hero then Alphius would not have been dead and I would not need to stand here having you help me avenge my father's death!”

”...”

”Who said I was a hero? I'm selfish! I've been like that since the beginning itself! Isn't that why I am in this mess?!”

Hecathe didn't know if he wanted to laugh or cry as he heard this.

It seemed that Marvin was at least self-aware.

”Now, tell me what happens when we get caught up in the war,” Marvin clicked his tongue as he demanded and Hecathe was a bit surprised to see that Marvin had recovered from the shock so fast.
