Chapter 163 - What Are You Going To Tell Her? (1/2)
”I bet she sent you here to spy on me,” Zather chuckled dryly as she commented and Hecathe didn't know if he was supposed to laugh or cry as he heard this question.
That was exactly why the landlady had hired him.
”So what now? What are you going to tell her?” Zather leaned in forward on her desk as she asked.
Hecathe, ”I'm going to tell her that you're doing good. There is no reason for me to say anything more than that.”
Zather squinted suspiciously at the man as she heard this and asked, ”Is that really it?”
Hecathe nodded his head with a sigh as he stood up once again, ”You seem to be suspecting her of a lot of things but I can tell that she's just worried about you. She only asked me to check how you were doing and nothing more than that. Why don't you meet her once and try to sort out a few things?”
”...”
”She might seem like an awful mother to you but from what I have seen till now, I can see that she is just a caring woman that is a bit concerned about her daughter,” Hecathe added with a small chuckle, and Zather was left a little speechless as she heard this.
”I know that she won't tell me what relationship she has with you and that is why I came here today. Since I got the answer that I was looking for, it is time for me to go and deal with another quite troublesome woman,” Hecathe spoke with a small smile as he turned around and left the room.
This time, Zather didn't stop the man and simply let him leave. She watched him go and even after he had left, her eyes remained on the door and she looked as if she was thinking about something deeply.
”Ma'am, why did you lie to him?” Kail tilted her head as she asked, glancing at Zather whose expressions weren't easy to read.
”Cause he's a troublesome one as well,” Zather responded without even having to think about the answer.
Kail frowned as she heard this and looked at the door as she commented, ”It looked like he was a friend though. I'm sure he didn't have any ill-intent.”
Zather sighed as she heard this and nodded her head as she agreed with Kail, ”You're right. He might not have any ill-intent but it's always better to be safe rather than sorry.”
Kail gulped as she heard this and although she couldn't quite understand the woman and the way her mind worked, Kail still nodded her head in understanding and said nothing more.
Zather had successfully lied to Hecathe once again and she believed that she had managed to get away with it, however, Hecathe sighed as he got out of the room and shook his head in disbelief.
”What a troublesome liar,” Hecathe commented under his breath and he was certainly referring to Zather.
The man was good at sensing lies and although Zather was a pretty good liar, there was still one thing that gave her out. She looked to be on her toes the entire time. She looked like she had her guards up even after revealing the truth and it was a dead giveaway that she was trying to hide something.
However, although Hecathe knew that the woman was lying, he still didn't bother asking her any more questions nor did he try to extort more information out of her since she was an asset that he was not looking to lose.
And it wasn't like everything that she had said had been a lie. When she talked about the landlady having a child, it looked as if she was not lying but at the same time, Hecathe could sense that the woman wasn't exactly talking about her own self which meant that there was indeed a child but it was not her.
If this was the case then Hecathe sensed something more complicated in this story and he was left with questions that couldn't be easily answered.
Why would Zather know about the landlady and her daughter when the whole thing was kept as a secret that almost no one else knew? And why would the landlady ask about Zather without inquiring about her daughter first?
This was confusing... To say the least.
And since it was so confusing, Hecathe simply decided to ignore it for the time being and headed to Kelly's office.
She was the troublesome woman that he was talking about and when he entered her office, he was proven correct as the woman threw a file aiming at his face.
Hecathe sighed as he easily caught the file and opened it.
