38 A Short Story (1/2)
A disheveled woman stood at the edge of a cliff, crying.
”When the sun sets, so my former life ends,” she said between sobs. The sun was slowly moving down the sea.
Days ago, she was the prettiest and the happiest girl that ever lived in their village. The town mayor's son proposed to her that day.
Days ago, the mayor graced their poor village and promised to improve their lifestyle after the wedding.
Days ago, she stood in front of a mirror, wearing the most beautiful wedding dress her mother sewed.
Somehow, that day ended without the groom and his family.
Days ago, she heard the groom married another woman in a neighboring village and were now enjoying their honeymoon.
On that very day, she faced her ex-fiance.
”Why didn't you marry me as you promised?” she shouted while being held by two of the mayor's bodyguards. The man she thought who loved her stood beside a chubby lady not as pretty as her but with a big belly.
”I promised but are promises made to be broken?” said the man with a smirk.
”Did you marry her because she's already pregnant?” asked the woman.
”Pregnant? Who said she's pregnant?” said the man, puzzled.
”Her protruding belly says it all.”
The man and his wife looked down at the said part of the body and laughed. They thought it was really hilarious.
”Oh, this?” said the man, caressing the wife's belly. ”Inside is not a baby, but only her fats.”He said it with disgust.
The wife giggled and smacked him at his back with her heavy hand, sending the husband's face sweeping the dusty floor.
”Oh sorry, dear. I have no control with my hands,” said the wife, giggling with a devilish smile.
The man got up, cursing inside, as he held his back which ached badly. He composed himself and said, ”No problem, dear. I'm not hurt at all,” with a forced smile on his face.
The wife looked at the other woman.
”Don't you worry, girl. I'll take care of this gay husband of mine.”
