The battle was a chaotic and messy affair. Had it not been the stealth spell applied on them, no doubt the Undyings would have been cursing at them for not helping.

The simple, but elegant designs on the Undying's village had been all but obliterated by the monster horde. Nine watched with indifferent eyes, as building after building collapsed throughout the ongoing attack.

She knew that should an army ever break through Cosmos City's walls; it would be no less devastating than it was here. To prevent that, she was willing to take the risk to find more protectors for her city. Nine was willing to use whatever she could to prevent such a fate befalling her city. As such, even if she had to employ Undyings to do it, she would do so without hesitation.

Desperate cries and roars filled the air, the sounds echoing repeatedly in her ears. She watched it all with unwavering eyes, taking in the struggles and desperation of man and monster alike. Though she would not save them, she recorded their struggles and their triumphs.

Likely, this was the first taste of hopelessness and death for many of the Undyings here. The unending horde of monsters, the blood and air of despair on the battlefield, watching hopelessly as comrade after comrade perished before their very eyes.

Even Nine herself had not seen anything quite like this before, nor had she ever wanted to. With her strength, she was able to protect those near her, but what about when she was away?

For that reason alone, she would never allow those whom she held dear to be crushed under the wings of her shadow. She would not hold their hand, nor be with them for every step of the way. Sometimes, experiencing it yourself would be your greatest teacher.

No one ever grew within the confines of a glasshouse, free from rain and toil, only accepting good weather.

Unlike Nine, Nocturne watched the scene playing out in front of him with dispassionate eyes. He had been part of battlefields like this countless times, and everyone he knew had already perished and gone from the vestiges of time.

Reminded of the fact, the silver-haired man grit his teeth in hate as he was reminded of what Alixia Lacroix put him through over countless years. She had effectively robbed him of his freedom, his time, and his life. He would never be able to see the people who had been dear to him ever again.

As such, he could not help but feel jaded at the sight of a familiar battlefield before him. He almost felt like he was watching back on his memories as a general for his Empire.

Nine, sensing something wasn't quite right with Nocturne, gently held his hand, snapping him out of his trance.

”Wife, what's wrong?” Nine asked. Her voice would have been impassive to most, but Nocturne could detect the tinge of worry that carried faintly on her words.

He struggled to put on a smile, but felt more like himself, nonetheless. ”I'll tell you later.”

Nine nodded, continuing to hold Nocturne's hand as support. Though she didn't know what painful thoughts he had now, she would always stay by his side as a comforting presence.

Taking this chance, Nine let out Rainier and Mephisto to play around on the battlefield. She wasn't worried about them being killed, and they could do with some battle experience.

Following suit, Nocturne sent out his two familiars as well, hugging Nine to himself as he was reminded about how those pesky Undyings had ran their eyes all over Nine as if they were peeling her clothes off that perfect body.

He seethed in jealousy but took cold comfort in the fact that Nine was already bonded to him.

Nine raised a brow, but all she saw was the top of Nocturne's head, so she patted the silky-smooth locks gently, smiling when his tense frame eased into a more comfortable state.
