Building an Army

A shadowy figure rose from the ground, the corpse kneeled before me on the ground – my mouth was open in shock, I hadn't actually expected that to work.

Skill Acquired – Shadow Necromancy.

Again I was shocked, but I quickly collected my thoughts and calmed my furiously beating heart. 'I'm an idiot.' Was the first thought on my mind, of course, I could create my own abilities – this 'system' was linked to me mentally after all.

”But why didn't it do this for those two techniques I picked up?” I mumbled under my breath in thought, looking at the shadow still kneeling on the ground an idea hit me – 'Are only abilities related to the Shadow Realm registered?' It was an educated guess, but so far I'd only used the abilities I knew I could use, it was only after having the realization that corpses also had shadows that I had thought to try commanding them leading to this situation.

”Shadow Necromancy,” I said aloud, I was still in the Shadow Realm however the familiar black text floated in front of me, despite the eternal darkness around me it was clear as day, another indication I was right about the words being mental projections rather than physically there.

'Shadow Necromancy: The Monarch can use this ability on corpses to raise them from the dead and induct them into his 'army.' What is a King without his people? The Monarchs army will follow him in the shadows and can, like the Monarch, enter and exit the Shadow Realm at will – by ordering your army to exit the Shadows or to Attack an enemy they will exit out of the Monarchs own shadow.

Current Limitations of Ability Level:

Army Size – 100 Troops

Additionally, if the Monarch encounters others with the ability to enter the Shadow Realm they will be able to see the army, your army will automatically engage such an enemy.'

'Overpowered.' Was the first thought in my mind, didn't this mean I was a moving fortress? So what if I was outnumbered, I would be able to turn the tide of a battle in an instant through sheer numbers.

The thought of such a situation excited me as I rushed around commanding the corpses to rise and join the ranks of my army.

'Army Size: 5/100'

With this I had five soldiers at the Mortal Leaving Realm Intermediate, these were the Shadows of the people stupid enough to rush into this room after the guards had died, the corpses of whom I would collect on my way out.

Turning my head I looked at the main event, she was at the Core Gathering Intermediate Stage and would become one of the main powers of my army for the time being. ”Rise, I command you.”

The first thing I noticed that was different about her shadow was that although she retained the hazed shadow likeness of the other Shadows it was more defined, the features she had when she was alive had accurately translated into the Shadow Realm. I could only put this down to her having a stronger soul when she was alive and nothing else for the time being however.
