6 Sports Even (2/2)

« Yes I'll be joining with my son Jimmy. »

She replied with a smile.

At this moment everybody in the school could hear a voice speaking in the speakers that asked them to head toward the schoolyard because the event was starting. Accompanied by teacher Rose and her son Jimmy, Sam and Em went to sit in front of a small podium where the principal of the school, an old lady was doing a speech.

She finally announced the start of the event after speaking for a very long time, Sam had even started falling asleep a few times... she basically spoke to the kids about respect, importance of hard work and these kind of boring things.

The event was a relay between parents and childs. It was divided in 5 races as there were too much groups to make them all run together and the best of the five races would compete against each other in the final. Sam and Em were in the last group while teacher Rose and Jimmy were in the first but Em was looking at someone from the third group, it was that bully Kate whatever and she was participating with her dad, a middle aged fat man with no hair and a beard that had starting going white. Very soon the first race ended and teacher Rose and her son arrived 3rd on 8 groups so they did a very good score. Then came the third group's turn, Kate was running the first part, she was very fast compared to other children as there was only one boy that ran in front of her. She was second until she passed the relay to her dad, he did his best but his big belly obstructed him too much and every other parent went past him before the final line. Kate was obviously disappointed but when she looked in the direction of Em that was looking at her mockingly she was so embarrassed that tears started welling up in her eyes. At that time the fourth group started running and amongst them was a cute little girl around Em's age, she was an Asian type girl with slanting eyes and very long smooth black hair.

« Go go Rika !! You can do it run faster ! You're the best ! »

Sam was surprised by the sudden outburst of energy by Em. 'So this is the Rika she keep speaking about...' this Rika was her best friend and she had met her this year but Sam didn't have the occasion to meet her until now as he always had either class or part time job.

This little Rika ran very fast and her big brother that was a copy of her but bigger and with short hair was a very handsome Asian dude ran even faster than the rest of the people and they arriver first of heir group without even giving their all. When she was done Rika ran toward Em, she had looked for her earlier but as there were lots of people she couldn't find her, now that Em had cheered her this loudly she finally found her. The girls hugged each other and jumped on the place seeming incredibly happy.

Then came Sam and Em's turn, Sam knew that for food Em could run very fast but was this competition motivating enough...? They went on their respective starting line and Em focused, it seemed as if she was going to war, in her mind she appeared heroic but in the eyes of other people she appeared very cute.

When the referee gave the start signal, she launched very fast. Even faster than most boys but there was one boy, a short guy that was right behind her and didn't want to lose to a girl so he gave his all and ran, until the end he couldn't get in front of her and she gave Sam the relay in first, a few seconds later it was the boys turn to give the relay to his dad. His dad was the same as him, a short guy but he seemed very athletic. Sam thought it would be an easy win so he didn't give his all from the start but the guy finally came to his side and gave him a mocking smile, Em watching this from afar panicked but Sam just gave back a smile and went at maximum speed, a second later he passed the end line. He didn't want to go at his maximum because he felt it would be too easy, according to the rest of the stats 10 was a very high stat for a normal guy so having 10 on speed was enough for him to win most common people, he would have difficulties when competing with professional sportsmen only and this guy definitely wasn't a professional runner.

Then the principal of school announced a one hour break at noon, people could either eat the food prepared by the school canteen or bring their own food, Sam had preferred bringing his own lunch and doing a picnic with his little sister, since his primary school days he hates the food served in the school canteens. He and his sister sat on a piece of cloth under the shade of a big tree, when he took out the boxes from his backpack 2 girls and one boy sat near them, one of the girls was Rika and the other one was a bigger version of her while the boy was her big brother that had ran with her.

”Rika ! You brought your food too ? I thought you'd eat in the canteen.”

Asked Em with a big smile, she really loved this best friend of her.

Sam looked at both the man and the woman that were with her and said

”You are the same age as me but already have a daughter...”

Both looked at each other and laughed then the guy said

”Our parents are working so we had to accompany our little sister...”

For the first time you've seen Sam being embarrassed, his face actually became tomato red...
