45 Mission puppy ? (2/2)

”Hello ?”

She jumped a bit, she probably wasn't expecting anyone so she apologized

”Oh hello ! I'm sorry we don't usually have customers at this time of the day so I got bored...”

”Hahah don't worry about that, I came today to see this little boy.”

He said while handing her the paper he had printed, every dog in the shelter was given a serial number and the golden retriever's one was written on this paper.

”Oh you come to adopt it ? Wait a second I have to check if it's still here.”

She started clicking around with her mouse and seconds later she said with a smile

”You are very lucky, usually golden retrievers don't stay long, puppies especially. Follow me I'll take you to see him.”

He followed her and they entered in a room full of cages, 2 people were busy moving around giving water and food to the dogs. When Sam got in the dogs became excited and started barking more, the room very soon became a cacophony, all the dogs were barking at the same time probably because they felt threatened by this person they had never seen, the people working there didn't seem bothered by it and kept doing their work, it must have been an habit by now.

In the corner of the room was a cage on the floor, inside it was a calm puppy, one of the few dogs that weren't barking, Sam sat in front of it when the girl signaled him that it was the one. He looked at the dog straight in the eyes and the dog stared back

”Can I take it out of the cage ?”

”Try to make contact with him through first.”

She smiled, she had chosen this job because she was an animal lover, she had to take all the possible precautions for the dog's security and Sam understood it.

He placed his palm on the cage, first the dog didn't do anything and just kept staring at him, then it stood up and approached him, it smelled his hand a few times and finally put its paw on top of Sam's palm. A high five ! The puppy did a high five with him !

”How cute !!! I want to adopt it, please help me with the paperwork !”

Sam stood up excitedly, he was so happy he was given this mission by the system, he had already decided he would make this dog his best friend.

”Are you sure ? Wouldn't you want to take more time to get closer to the dog ?”

”Don't worry, I'd like to start doing it now.”

It wasn't a sudden decision, since young he wanted a dog, when he got the system he had already made plans to adopt one when he'd buy a bigger house but now that he was given the mission by the system he had just sped up the process.

He followed her and she asked him for a few things such as where he lived, since when, if he had other pets at home... he was asked at least a hundred questions and a few proofs to his answers. The « interview » took a long time, when he was free he had to grab Em from school right away, he would be getting the puppy tomorrow morning. He left the shelter with a big smile, he didn't want to tell Em and wanted to surprise her so he took her home without telling her anything, she realized her brother was acting weird since he kept smiling but he wouldn't tell her anything so she gave up.

That night he spend most of his time thinking about a name for the puppy.
