Bai Zhexi had been working at the Wutong County Glass Factory. In the early 1990s, she was laid-off. In order to support her, she had set up a shoe-repair stall on the street.

Wan Chao and Bai Zhexi had quarreled quite a few times for the sake of this shoe repair stall because she felt that it was too embarrassing.
