Chapter 19 (1/2)
Preventing the Tragedy
Xu Jiaojiao raised her head abruptly. Was it because of her that Qi Shenbai didn’t let the driver drive? If the driver had been there, would he be fine? At least he would not die, right…? The driver was always behind the wheel, so he was more sensitive to danger than Pei Yan, Mr. Qi’s assistant. His driving skills were also much better, so he might be able to avoid danger.
Qi Shenbai noticed that something was wrong with Xu Jiaojiao, but he thought that it was the aftereffects of last night’s incident. He raised his hand and looked at his watch. It was about time. He would help the young lady overcome her troubles when she came back.
Qi Shenbai had only taken a few steps when someone grabbed his suit jacket. When he turned around, he saw Xu Jiaojiao’s slender and fair fingers holding onto his black suit jacket, creating a stark visible contrast.
Xu Jiaojiao looked a little anxious as her mind raced. What should she do? Qi Shenbai was her brother’s good friend. If anything happened to him, her brother would definitely be sad. Even setting aside his relationship with her brother, Qi Shenbai was still her husband in name. If he died, wouldn’t she become a widow at way too young an age?
‘Save him! I have to save him!’ Xu Jiaojiao’s face scrunched up.
Qi Shenbai sized up Xu Jiaojiao’s expression. Although his eyes were filled with doubt, he did not rush her. When Pei Yan saw them like that, he swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue.
“I…” Xu Jiaojiao stuttered, as she had not thought of an excuse. “Um… Can I exchange drivers with you?”
Qi Shenbai said, “Give me a reason.”
Xu Jiaojiao: “The driver over there looks a little fierce. I’m scared…”
The driver standing outside the door was speechless. He silently retreated out of the door.
Qi Shenbai glanced at the driver’s actions and said calmly, “Don’t worry, he wouldn’t dare be rude to you.”
Xu Jiaojiao was so anxious that she was sweating profusely. However, her small hands were still gripping Qi Shenbai’s clothes tightly. “Then… then I want to take your car. Your car is more comfortable.”
Perhaps he was softened by Xu Jiaojiao’s big, teary eyes, or perhaps he was in a hurry and wanted to get her out of his hair, so Qi Shenbai did not say anything more. He simply asked Pei Yan to drive another car out of the basement.
Before Pei Yan left, he glanced at Xu Jiaojiao. He did not expect this young lady to be so vain.
