Glancing down at her, he said in a soft tone, ”Despite your best efforts you are unable to curb down your shiver. Discreetly I read your pulse to confirm my doubt, and yes, you are feverish.”

With a sigh, she reluctantly agreed, ”Fine, you win! But before calling Dr. Wang let me finish what I want to say next. And I want you to answer me honestly. No matter what your answer is, please be honest.”

He felt the tenseness in her eyes as she asked him this question, ”I will always be honest to you. Go ahead”

After a long while, Xiu Mei breaks the silence in between them.

”Hey, you are still there na?”

”Hm! What is it? Ask me freely”

Xiu Mei took her own sweet time to say as he waited patiently. She got up and looked straight into his eyes, ”I made you suffer so much; did you really forgive me by heart? Or is there any resentment left against me? Please answer me taking everything into consideration, your answer matters everything to me and I want to hear it verbally from you. ” Feng Jianyu's face darkened, his heart pained looking at her feel insecure.

”Mei, you don't have to feel insecure. I never held you responsible for all that. NEVER MEANS NEVER”, he replied firmly, ”No matter how many times you ask me this question; my answer would be same.”

”But I behaved so badly with you”, she retorted.

He held her face and pulled her closer before answering sternly, ”No… You haven't done anything wrong. It was some other evil bastard who played with both of us that night. We both ended up as his prey and he was the one who turned our life upside down. Not only he planned my accident but he tried to kill you too. This invisible wall of betrayal between us was made by him. If it was not for that fateful night, our story might be happier and not this painful.”

”And trust me, I'll get him out of his bolthole and give him the most horrible death that one can ever imagine. I won't spare him for his crimes. Never…. No one in this world can dare to hurt my woman.”

”So please, please stop apologizing to me again and again, stop blaming yourself, stop feeling bad for me and stop feeling guilty for the mistakes that you have committed unknowingly. And yes my dear, remember, this is the last time I'm giving an explanation on the topic. If in future you bring it up again, I'll break your leg and lock you up in the room. Do you understand?”

Hearing the last line she chuckled.
