Chapter 50 - Capturing Mutants. (1/2)
Kelly clicked her tongue, ”I don't enjoy listening to mindless chatter. Since we have already covered information about your mission, I hope everyone here is already well aware about the consequence that comes with choosing to volunteer in this mission?”
The consequence? Even though she hadn't said it out loud, it was clear as day what they would be putting at stake in this mission. The consequence was death. They could easily die in there and this was something that they were already aware of before they even took this mission, after all, hunting mutants was not an easy job.
Everyone nodded as a confirmation and Kelly looked to be pleased with this response as she continued, ”That's great!”
She took out something from her pocket and threw it over to each of the other members as she spoke, ”If you want to capture one alive then this would help you a lot. I wouldn't promote trying but in case you're courageous enough, you can use it.”
Hecathe looked down at the thing that he had caught easily and with just a look, he was able to understand what it was. Although it looked like zip-ties, Hecathe was sure that it was probably not a normal zip-tie. It was thicker and stronger which would probably be perfect to restraint the mutants.
”Then we can go ahead now,” Kelly announced without missing a beat.
Before anyone could say anything, the woman snapped her finger and the faint light that was coming from the design on the floor disappeared, leaving the room completely dark.
Hecathe couldn't help but frown as he noticed that the temperature had suddenly gotten cold. He immediately tried to see if there were any mutants around and just as he had expected, he could feel a strong connection from the mutants nearby who were... A bit too near to them.
”Why did you turn off the light?” Lele's high-pitched voice could be heard as she questioned in confusion.
Hecathe sighed as he felt that this woman was really a bit dumb in the head.
It wasn't the light that was put out, it was them.
They were not standing in that dark grey room anymore but were in fact standing in the middle of a mutant cave, covered from all sides by hordes of those creatures.
”On the count of three, we attack!” Kelly's voice could be heard loud and clear, echoing throughout the whole cave.
Lele, ”Eh?”
”One,” Kelly started the count and Hecathe got ready as he closed his eyes and started to estimate how many mutants were covering them.
”Two!” Kelly shouted but one couldn't understand which direction her voice was coming from.
”Three,” Kelly suddenly lit up a matchstick which became the only source of light in the cave.
The mutants that were hiding in the dark immediately got revealed. They growled with their fangs on display, drooling at the sight of people.
Even though Hecathe knew that these creatures were basically harmless for him, he still couldn't help but feel uneasy and a bit creeped out at the sight of them.
Even if one knew that they were having a nightmare, the nightmare would certainly not be any less scary. This situation could also be compared to that lucid nightmare.
